About Me

Hi there!

I’m Arielle, a Canadian-Italian writer and podcast producer based in London, England. I'm passionate about cooking, community organizing and exploring the mystifying psychology of people who "just don't have a sweet tooth". I'm also passionate about podcasts (was this implied?).

I moved to London in 2017 to pursue a MSc in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics. After graduating, I worked in the urban design and innovation field researching the social and cultural impacts of Smart City technologies. I honed an approach to city innovation that places people - and their real needs - squarely in the centre.

In 2019 I began my career as a podcast producer at an independent London startup. I worked on a range of shows with subjects including cultural commentary and mental health. Currently, I produce podcasts cutting across genres and topics, from author book launches to brand responsibility in the context of the Black Lives Matter movement.

What to Expect

Spilt Milk is a newsletter about podcasts, people and the politics of food. Aside from the clever/cringe-worthy (please circle one) alliteration, I’ve yet to establish a clear connection between these topics. The only common denominator is that these are the subjects that occupy my mind for the better part of the day, the things that I just can’t stop thinking, learning, writing and talking about. What podcast will transport me to a faraway country when travel as we know it has been turned on its head? Why are people so shit at goodbyes? Where does the food on my plate actually go if I’m too full to finish? What should I make for an upcoming dinner party after my latest attempt at cooking left loved ones hospitalised with an acute case of food poisoning? If the sporadic nature of these questions is any indicator, this newsletter will be an eclectic mix of reviews, recommendations, recipes and ramblings (apologies for inflicting further alliteration on you. You deserve better.).

Spilt Milk is ultimately about acknowledging the messiness of life. And more importantly, about trying to weather it all with a bit of critical thinking and a lot of humour. So, hopefully this newsletter will get you thinking, laughing and cooking with an excessive amount of carbs, because “clean eating” is a fundamentally flawed concept (we’ll delve into this in a future newsletter) and in my opinion, replacing homemade pasta with limp zucchini spirals is a crime against humanity. Spilt Milk is a firm believer in carbs. And also critical thinking. But, mostly carbs.

Arielle
